Angels and Friends

Dixie and Matt - We're thing of ya and praying for you both!

Donna's Story
I'm tearing up as I write this. This is an emotional post for me.

I remember the day plain as blue...It was a warm, sunny evening, just before sunset. Donna was sitting in the hospital courtyard quietly taking in the peace and sunshine. Her eyes were closed, head looking up as if she were willing herself to head to the warmth of the light. After a long exhausting time of caring for her soul mate, Scott, she took a short break to gather her peace. She was alone, thinking, dreading what's next, and asking God for strength.

That's where I came in with a hug and a shoulder. We held each other as she cried.

Later we went up to see Scott. I wanted to send him off with love...He was not a close friend, but he made such an impact on her and that was what mattered to me most. I held and stroked his hand and told him I loved him... and then the next day he passed on.

That was five years ago.

Donna, for some reason, calls me her angel -- to this day. I think it's kinda odd, me -- Lois-- an angel! I don't see myself as an angel type. In fact, it makes me feel uncomfortable to be thought of in that way... I am not angelic by any means.

Later, I asked her why she calls me her angel. We talked about how God puts people in our lives at certain times to help us muddle through life's puzzles, weather the storms, and provide us direction. She said that one particular day I was her angel. What an honor!

Blogger Angels
I've been blogging for about a year and a half and I've "met" many wonderful people. Each have such wonderful gifts. Humor, insight, passion, drive, and creativity. A couple of you have even taken me "to raise" so to speak...And I thank you. I hope I make you proud and pass on the "love" you've given me. Some of you are my Angels! If you think you are my angel, chances are you ARE my angel!

Back to the point...

For Dixie and Matt

I'm writing this because right now one of our fellow bloggers and her family needs an angel, Dixie. Her son, Matt enlisted in the marines. As a recent high school graduate he is heading for bootcamp at Parris Island on Sunday -- And such a brave decision for such a young man!

I guess really, both of them need angels right now...someone to spend a quiet moment with. The neat thing about being an angel is that you don't have to be present to "be there." You can be there in spirit as well. Please take a moment to spend some quiet time with Dixie and her family in mind. Pray if you want to, sing, laugh or cry... just take that moment to be there for them. Be their angel!

I know what being an angel meant to my friends Donna and to Scott. Let's take the time to spread some love and be an angel for Dixie, Matt, and their family. Please leave them a message and let them know you were their angel.

Hugs!
:-D)

Thank you Lois. I've had the honor of having Dixie as a sister-by-choice for over a year now. The kindness I see in bloggers as we put our hands on Dixie and Matt's shoulders is overwhelming.

There are good people out there, you are definitely one of them.
